Headache is the pain or discomfort in any portion of the head or face. It is one of the common issues in children. There are different types of headache and treatment varies from one type to other.

What Causes Headaches in Children?

How Are Headaches Diagnosed in Children?
The doctor examines your child and asks questions related to headache such as the severity of pain, how frequently it occurs, possible triggers etc. Your child needs to be more specific in this regard. The doctor may also ask for your child’s and family medical history.
The doctor also conducts a physical exam including measuring height, weight, and blood pressure and also examines your child’s eyes, neck and shoulders.
If your doctor suspects any serious condition, your child may need to undergo through some tests such as:
- MRI: MRI scan gives detailed images of organs and tissues in the body.
- CT scan: CT scan gives clear images of any parts of the body namely organs, bones and muscles.
- Lumbar puncture: This test is used to measure the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid. It also helps to identify any infection in cerebrospinal fluid.
How Are Headaches Treated in Children?
The treatment for your child’s headache depends on symptoms, age, severity and the type of headache and general health. The treatment is mainly focused on reducing the occurrence of a headache. You can treat your child at home with proper rest, providing plenty of fluids, healthy and balanced meals and by using a few medications. The medicines would also vary from child to child and always check with your doctor before taking medication.
